Girls' Raglan Sleeve Dress with a Ruffle Hem (Vikisews Wendy)
The Vikisews Wendy is a girls' dress with raglan sleeves, a high waistline and buttons at the back. I added a ruffle at the hem for a flowy, girly spring dress. The video is a full step-by-step sew-along, easy enough for a beginner.
Why sew the Vikisews Wendy dress
It's an easy project, even for a beginner following the video, and the ruffle hem turns a simple dress into a pretty, flowy one for spring.
My changes to the Vikisews Wendy pattern
- Added a ruffle at the hem: two strips of 14 × 140 cm, after taking about 15 cm off the bottom of the skirt.
- I also took an extra 8 cm off the front, and regretted it: the front became too high. Take off 3 cm at most, or make the ruffle deeper (about 20 cm).
- The sleeve elastic was tight at the length on the pattern, so add a couple of centimetres.
- Next time I'd use a narrower bias tape at the neckline: 7 mm instead of 1 cm.
- I finished the hem with a rolled hem on the overlocker, then folded it and topstitched 2 mm from the edge.
